looking for a photo manager that will allow me to tag photos so the tags become part of the file. This way I can use any program to move or edit the the photo and the tags are still there. I will also like to be able to create albums or custom searches and save them in a way that other users on the network will be able to either view the albums or the saved searches with all the tags. At one point I thought that Picasa with the addition of Picasa Starter which allow me to to create the database on a network drive. however it is not a network program and the albums are still created on the local machine.
I tried Windows 7 and for some stupid reason as soon as you are trying to index photos on a network drive it wants to keep an off line copy on the local machine which defeat the purpose.
will appreciate any input.

I use digikam on Linux exclusively. Its much more than a photo manger with plugins for editing RAW images, batch processing options and most of the editing features used often. another cool feature of digikam is it can be used for remote image capture if your camera supports it.
